Hi, I am an Xfinity customer receiving cable internet. This post is about a problem that I've recently been facing. I have been unable to fix this yet through my attempts, and calling Xfinity support hasn't yielded success yet either. This is a repost from the official Xfinity forums, because I'm not sure if I'm going to get an answer about non-Comcast-provided modem there.
Problem/Symptom Description:
Just in the past few weeks, I have observed a problem while playing online games. It appears that information that I send is delayed to the game server for short periods of time (1-2 seconds), and this happens every few minutes, but irregularly, so it's not predictable. I know that this is not a problem with the game server itself, since my friends have commented while using Discord to voice chat that my voice becomes glitchy/incomprehensible when this happens. Interestingly enough, I can still hear my friends perfectly fine and see things updating in-game while this happens. It seems as if I just can't upload any information during these periods, whether that be to the game server or my voice over the mic to Discord. In-game, the ping tracker says "Timed Out" at the moment when the lag spike is occurring.
Replacing the Modem:
I've been meaning to replace our cable modem, which was a Motorola Surfboard Model SB6120 (released April 28, 2009). So, I tried my luck by buying a more modern cable modem. The new one I purchased is a Motorola MB8611 (released July 21, 2020). After installing the new modem and getting the internet up and running with Xfinity, the problem appeared to be gone. However, I believe this was just a coincidence or related to restarting the modem, as the problem returned later that night and the following day.
In the new modem's logs, I see the following error messages that seem to correspond with my connection issues (I censored the CM-MAC and CMTS-MAC addresses with XXs because I think they are sensitive information):
The following messages about event 16/24 are printed every couple minutes in the logs, night and day:

The event log messages all seem to be about Chan ID 35 and are alternating between Event Type Code 16 and 24, which I looked up (link):
16 | DS OFDM profile failure | FEC errors were over limit on one of the assigned downstream OFDM profiles of a channel
24 | OFDM profile recovery | FEC recovery on OFDM profile
In the connection information page, I see the following information:

I have noticed that the row regarding Channel ID 35, which all the event log messages are about, has a large value (92,222,435) in the "Corrected" column. I don't know what this column means. Also, the modulation column says that this channel is using OFDM PLC for its modulation, which is different from all the other rows. I don't know what this modulation type means either.
Does anyone know if there is sufficient information in what I have posted to diagnose a problem? This problem just popped up suddenly after years of using the same setup and not changing anything. We already tried replacing/restarting the modem (and restarting router), but the next shot-in-the-dark steps that I could act on include replacing the router, replacing all the cables connecting devices, or perhaps eliminating any unnecessary switches in-between devices. I have tested that this problem affects multiple computers in the house by running a gping command on google.com and observing the "t/o" field increment at periods when I experience this problem, which I believe are timeouts.
Thanks for your consideration

Maintenance making my service worse
I've had Comcast internet for a bit over a year now. Signed up the moment it was available at the beginning of last year when our area was upgraded from analog to digital.
It was very unstable at first, with all my upstream levels at 58+ dBmV. Finally got that resolved after many tech visits when they sent a ticket to plant maintenance. (The issue was never in my home wiring). This stabilized things for a while, but months later, they decided to do maintenance one day, and it dropped all my levels out of spec and created what they later called a "reverse tilt", which required another ticket to plant maintenance to resolve. Since then all my levels were perfect.
Now, again, after my service went down with a message saying "they're correcting performance issues in my area", my internet comes back up with upstream levels that have increased from around 42-44 dBmV to 50-51. I'm not sure if this is still in spec, but i'm getting random drop outs once again. I'm just wondering why this continues to happen. Service is finally working perfectly, then some random maintenance that instead of improving my levels, makes them worse. Also, would this upstream level be causing my problems? The modem never actually "resets" / loses signal completely, it just "drops out" for a minute or so.

New to Comcast?? modem questions
My daughter is moving to Pittsburgh for grad school and has scheduled an install for Comcast internet at her apartment. She got the “Performance Internet Xfinity Flex” plan with a 600/20 speed and “Blast! Internet.” I have a few questions:
1. What is Blast Internet?
2. They are charging her $14/month for the equipment rental. Can I use an Netgear Orbi mesh router or do they not provide a separate cable modem (I.e.: is their router integrated with their modem)?
Thanks in advance.

Motorola MB8611 And Comcast
I purchased the Motorola MB8611 modem in February, 2022. It has been nothing but problems ever since. Not knowing what was causing so many reboots, I entirely rebuilt my network. Still can't get at most 10 to 12 hours of connection. I have been working with a Upper Level Tech and it seems that the MB8611 modem is just a dud for use with Comcast. Motorola Customer support is useless to non existent. There seem to a whole lot of people with MB8611 connection problems. The Comcast Tech has been great but we are at a stand still with the MB8611 and the connection issues. Sorry I ever saw this Motorola modem and there does not seem to be a solution. I have been trying to get in contact with Motorola support many times. No call back, on hold for up to four hours and then Motorola hangs up. I doubt if a replacement modem would be any better. DON"T BUY THIS MODEM! I may have to eat the cost of this modem and get a different brand replacement.

[Mobile] "Xfinity Mobile" wireless service
As mentioned in this recent DSLR news item https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Prepares-For-Mid2017-Wireless-Service-Launch-139048 , Comcast is planning a mid-year launch of their wireless service.
Comcast announced today that they will be providing the details on this new service on Thursday:
Comcast to Host Analyst Event to Discuss Launch of Mobile Initiative

Senior members of the Comcast leadership team will participate in the event. ...There is also this FierceCable article today about it:
Comcast sets Thursday meeting with investors to discuss wireless launch
By Daniel Frankel, FierceCable - April 3, 2017
http://www.fiercecable.com/cable/comcast-sets-thursday-meeting-investors-to-discuss-wireless-launchquote:Some of the telecom industry’s most closely guarded secrets could finally be revealed Thursday, when Comcast hosts what it calls an “analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative.”
:
Comcast confirmed plans to launch a wireless service combining the strengths of its vast Wi-Fi network and its MVNO deal with Verizon back in September. The launch has been slated for sometime later this year.
:
Last week, FierceWireless reported that Comcast is quietly partnering with Apple as it prepares to launch wireless service under the brand Xfinity Mobile: http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/comcast-quietly-taps-iphone-ahead-launch-xfinity-mobile
The cable giant’s name has been added to behind-the-scenes - but publicly available - code that lists carrier bundles for the iPhone. The list of carrier bundles is used by iTunes and iPhones to determine whether the iPhone’s SIM is supported by a service provider with whom Apple has an agreement, then provisions the phone accordingly.
The iPhone's latest list of carrier bundles includes "Verizon_Comcast_LTE_US," and mentions the service "Xfinity Mobile." A source pointed out the reference to FierceWireless, and a different source with knowledge of the matter confirmed that Comcast has indeed partnered with Apple ahead of the launch of Xfinity Mobile. Adding WOW to my Comcast Connection
Hello- I can get WOW 50 mbps for $9.99 per month and I currently have Comcast 600/20 service. My subdivision has all the cable lines underground and there is a tap in my back yard. I used to have WOW 15 years ago or so and when I got Comcast it was disconnected and Comcast did a new drop to my house.
Adding WOW at $9.99 per month seems super cheap and is a nice way to have some redundancy while at the same time eliminating all worries with respect to my Comcast data cap. My main concern is that I don't want to mess anything up with my Comcast service which is working flawlessly.
If I were to add WOW service to my house and keep Comcast too, what is the chance they (WOW) would be doing something that might cause problems with my Comcast service? Would they need to add a separate drop from the tab in my back yard? I believe there is another outlet on it.

[Price] Comcast moving to fixed pricing?
I just checked a family member's address in Florida (they have Frontier FiOS competition) and it looks like Comcast is moving to fixed pricing for at least some of the tiers.
It used to say "for 24 months" in the fine print, but now there's no promo period specified for several of the tiers:
[att=1]
It looks like the price is a flat $55, 70, or 75 with no contract and no promo period. It also includes xFi Complete with unlimited data and a modem/router for free.
Maybe they're moving to flat pricing in areas with fiber competition?
