Anyone else seeing recurring evening network issues in the Bucks County or Philadelphia area? Here's a summary of what I've seen over the past couple nights:
- On my way home 8/19, there are 3 Comcast trucks working up and down my street but I am seeing no issues with my services and my cable box and modem signals are great. There is a video outage reporting X1 is out for everyone, but I don't have an X1 box
- On the evening of 8/19 ~ 8PM, I notice my internet slows to a crawl. I ping my 1st hop gateway (69.139.24.1) and everything looks fine ... 15 minutes of pings and not a single packet dropped. Pinging google or other locations is showing 50%+ packet loss with high pings times as well. Can't even run a speedtest. My modem signals are fine though, and pings to my 1st hop are fine. By ~ 10PM everything is back to running normal. I chalk it up to the potential X1 issues
- On 8/20, everything is fine until almost the same exact time of night ... right around 8 PM my internet slows again my my modem signals are still great. Ping checks to my local gateway (69.139.24.1) are still fine. Basically an exact repeat of what was seen the night before. I called Comcast and they said everything looked fine. I told them the issue was somewhere past my 1st hop, but of course the 1st level tech folks have no issue what I'm taking about. When I called back Comcast around 9:30 PM I noticed the phone system was now reporting an outage in the area. Once again as it got near 10 PM, the problem went away like flipping a switch, but the outage was still being reported online.
I should have though to run a traceroute while the issue was going on, but it slipped my mind. My traceroutes after 10 PM and this morning look fine. Again, I know from ping checks that my 1st hop is fine, but a google ping check was horrible. The traceroute would have probably told me just where the breakdown is. But if they were also reporting video issues (I wasn't having any), I figure the problem is on Comcast's network locally. Strange that it's happening at the same time each night and only after I've seen the Comcast truck on my street,
Anyone else in the area seeing these problems ... and how do I get past the 1st level phone support who just want to schedule a home visit when the issue is obviously past my 1st gateway hop?
