[Connectivity] connection issue

Hi. I'm in Palo Alto CA. I used to have a Zyxel BRG35503, and I was getting No Ranging Response Received messages a few times a day. On the off chance that it was my modem, and because I wanted to switch to DOCSIS 3.1 anyway, I purchased and set up a Netgear CM1000. I'm still getting those messages, but I think that they're happening less frequently (perhaps 1 time per day). Is this normal or does it indicate a problem? (in other words, could this just be a result of routine daily maintenance by Comcast?) I have no splitters whatsoever between the modem and the drop. There is a single RG6 cable that is plugged into the modem, and the other end is at the MPOE. Here are the current logs on my CM1000: 2017-05-16, 11:58:50 Critical (3) No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=b0:b9:8a:af:a1:d0;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:65:bc:4c;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.1; 2017-05-16, 11:58:52 Critical (3) Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance opportunities received - T4 time out;CM-MAC=b0:b9:8a:af:a1:d0;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:65:bc:4c;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.1; [Plan] Side Discussion on DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit service

Mod Note: This topic started as "XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 - data cap with 3-year agreement?" It has become a general discussion of this deployment, hence the title change. uid://455626 If you actually have had this service installed, the stickied report topic is here. > https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30960001-Speed-Report-DOCSIS-3-1-Gigabit-Service-Here If you report, please include info requested in the first post and keep that topic strictly on topic. Thanks, sortofageek The XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 is now available in my area. I am tempted to sign up. Early reports said unlimited data with a 3-year agreement. The Comcast website says nothing but the typical disclaimer about the data usage plan. I don't want to sign a 3-year agreement for a plan with a data cap. Does anyone know if the XI Gigabit service is subject to the data usage nonsense? [Connectivity] Anyone have Comcast fiber to the house ? I have some questions..

I live in a community (2400 houses) that is about to sign a contract with Comcast to install fiber to the house. What equipment is installed on the outside my house ? Does the ONT require power, if so how do they get power to it ? Any other equipment besides the gateway and STB's inside ? Any pic's of the ONT would be great too :) Thanks

General power outage. have UPS backup but lost internet ?

The area in Indianapolis I live in had a brief power outage this morning. About 20 minutes or so. I have UPS systems on my modem, router, amplifier and all cable boxes plus TV's. Modem showed normal lights; all services working, but I did not have internet. Not sure about TV, they were off. Since I live in an apartment would it have a powered distribution system that could have gone down with the power outage? I was hoping my UPS system would keep me working during a power outage. And that did not happen today. I may be wasting money on UPS's!

[E-mail] What trips the junk mail filter?

I use Outlook 2013 as my client and it catches most of the spam I get. Comcast filters catch some spam before it ever gets to Outlook but sometimes it flags legitimate emails. Today my son sent something at 3 p.m. and when we hadn't responded in a couple hours, he called to ask about it. I logged into my Comcast account and there it was in the junk folder along with one other non-spam email and two spam emails. My son sends us emails several times a week and always uses the same email address. So I'm wondering what tripped the Comcast filters with this one. It had a couple links in it but that's not unusual. Any ideas?

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/05/comcast-vendor-sent-cease-and-desist-to-operator-of-anti-comcast-website/ Just saw this..... apparently Comcast didn't like someone putting up a site where you could punch in your name & compare it to many suspiciously identical, anti net neutrality comments, so they had lawyers C&D their asses. Classy as always. :uhh:

Let's say you have problem A, Comcast comes and (eventually) fixes it. (Of course wasting hours for the multiple repair techs to come. And hours disputing repair charges on the bill.) Everything works great for a few months. Then you have problem B, then Comcast comes and (eventually) fixes that. Everything works great for a few months. Then comes problem C, D, E, and so on. Repeat A again. What does Comcast eventually do if different things keep breaking in a neighborhood? Or does this keep going forever?

We've been having horribly intermittent network issues at my house for the past few months. After lots of turning things off and back on again, I found PingPlotter and let it run for a bit. I have the latest graph posted below. It appears that the first hop from my house to their first node is a bit of a doozy. What do I need to tell the techs on the phone to get beyond the "Have you tried turning it off and back on again" point? Am I misreading this things and need to look elsewhere?

Neighbors have Comcast, I can't get it?

I just moved into Riverton, UT and several of my neighbors (within a few homes) have Comcast. However, Comcast has told me no service is available at my address. The best explanation I've gotten is from one chat representative (when I tried to move service here) who told me there was a damaged cable. Looking at my backyard, I have two cable pedestals in both corners of my yard, 100ft from my house. On one of them, a coax cable is coming out, which is then dangled over the fence. It appears overhead there is another coaxial cable dangling (black wire dropping straight down) - could this be the cable damage they are talking about? How can I get in touch with someone who has an answer for me? Most of the things I have found online are relating to new construction and/or rural areas, which doesn't seem correct for my scenario. I work from home regularly for work (work for a large tech company) and the only other internet available at my home is Centurylink (which came and hooked me up right away) but they can only offer up to 20mb/1mb dsl bonded, which is less than adequate for my needs. Thanks!

[Signals] Modem Diagnostic Page Question

Yesterday, I saw a Comcast truck on my street. The guy was working on one of those cable boxes on a neighbor's lawn. Out of curiosity, I asked him what was going on. He said he was "balancing" the neighborhood. I don't know exactly what that means. Anyway, after he was gone, I checked my cable modem, and got the following numbers. Can anyone tell me if these numbers are good? (sorry about the bad formatting). Thanks for any assistance! By the way, the modem is an SB6183. [Signals] Not getting paid for throughput

Please read in its brief entirety. I live in Rome, GA and have Internet through Comcast. The last mile is AT&T. I subscribe to the 10/1 tier through Comcast. I have NEVER been able to get more than 2 down. Comcast came out and replaced all the outside wiring (it was a mess) and then a Comcast truck showed up and made markings on the grass and road running from the pole about 1 mile away to the gray box that terminates then runs to the various trailers including mine which looks to be 4. What I intend to do is run tracerts to the servers to see how much are Comcast\AT&T then present the documentation to them. I will also document downloads that support a max of 2 down. Not quite sure yet how I will do this. I have tested this directly connected to the modem and at various times throughout the day and night as well as on different days. The whole reason to do this is that I am paying for one thing and getting only 1\5th of it. If anyone can offer any constructive suggestions please do. TIA, Avantare

I use the Netgear C7000-100NAS. Both my down and uplink green light's never flash, but the green uplink indicator has begun to flash. I can however reset the modem but, after a day or 2 the green uplink indicator will start flashing again. Even with it flashing the unit has a great connection with Comcast. I get all my 250Mbit down and 25Mbit up speed's from Comcast. Are my uplink frequency signals from Comcast looking at where they should be??? Could there be a fault with the green uplink indicator???

The modem is an SB6183. I contacted Comcast direct forum and someone from the direct forum helped get a tech out to my residence. The tech said the downstream and upstream were both in bad shape out at the tap. He put in a ticket with all of the diagnostics last Friday 5/19/2017 and said the issue should be resolved within 48 hours. Fast forward to 5/22/2017 the issue is still persistent. I've called Comcast support 2 times this week each time after the stated response time. Each time they have told me the ticket was escalated to a supervisor and they should contact me within 24-48 hours. Both times I have not been contacted. As of today it's been a full week without any help or a status update. Who do I need to talk to or what do I need to say in order to get this resolved? I have also posted status updates with my modem power levels in the direct forum and it has gone unanswered since the initial correspondence. Thanks.

[Equip] Arris SB6183 modem lights?

Is it normal on the Arris SB6183 modem to go from a solid blue light to a solid green light? The "upstream" icon is now a solid green light. I power-cycled my modem a few days ago when this happened and the light went back to a solid blue light. But, today the light changed from solid blue to a solid green light on my "upstream" icon. And the power cycle didn't work. This is a new purchased modem and I don't want to try a "refresh signal" from Comcast because I don't know what will happen since this is a new modem. Will the solid green light turn back to blue on it's own or will I have to power cycle again or get a "refresh signal" from Comcast?
