Xfinity XB6-T gateway

Just picked up the modem in subject line and noticed it had two Ethernet ports. Can I use them simultaneously? I have my Netgear R7000 hooked up to port one (modem in bridge mode) and was curious if I can use port two to wire up my Xbox one. I’m hard wired out of my R7000 to the three Xbox ones in our house. No issues just curious

[Connectivity] Yet another SBG6580 "Access Denied" issue

Hello, I just became a Comcast internet customer, but have no success of being connected. I have my own modem (Surfboard SBG6580) but the connection status at the admin page says "Access Denied." The persistent issue still happening. The firmware version is SBG6580-3.1.0.0-GA-07-180-NOSH. Apparently, one of the oldest. I also read in the forum that this problem was solved with the recent firmware but I cannot update the firmware myself. Apparently this is a known issue as I searched online (this forum particularly) and people suggested PMing Netcool as the problem cannot be solved by the customer. Probably the best idea, but the DSLReports does not allow PM within 8 hours after new account creation ;( Also I do not think posting my MAC address on the public form is a good idea. (Well, never mind. The MAC address is REMOVED . I will remove it later.) I know this is Sunday and employees have to have a rest, but is there any faster way to solve this problem before I can wait 8 hours? (Hopefully the NetDog's automated tool may pick up my post and solve it for me...) Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

I currently have a rented XB6, have not called in to question yet, but recently my speed seemed to suffer and when I login and check the network status I see this. Any thoughts guys? [Signals] I get it - 16 24 28 but 31? Channel bonding

Just did a reboot today to see if any progress has been made in getting 3.1 and to my surprise my SB8200 found what seems like 31 channels now. Used to be only 24. Still no OFDM unfortunately. But I’m now able to peak in the low 900 mbps download. When I could only get in the mid 700’s before. Should I be concerned about channel 1 missing? I only count 31 channels. I know the recent addition of channels seems to have just happened. Maybe they are still working on more? Also it’s kind of annoying how the 8200 will place it’s favorite channel on the top of the list but oh well ...

[Connectivity] how critical is upstream power levels?

After a few days of service. I am Now having to constantly power cycle the modem to have internet. at least once a day and sometimes more. I read this: http://arris.force.com/consumers/articles/General_FAQs/SB8200-Troubleshooting-Internet-Connectivity/?l=en_US&fs=RelatedArticle article and my upstream power is slightly low. and there is a ceiling fan in the rom with the modem, it gets very warm to touch. Could this be my issue? uploaded status capture tried 3 different routers I have to see if that "might" be the issue and even directly connected this happens. once reseconected, only seems to take a minute or so. it works fine and speeds are the same each time. thanks in advance.

TM-AC1900 Router Question

Not sure if this is the right place to post, I guess I could have asked in the TMO forum but Comcast is my ISP. I use the TM-AC1900 router which is a rebranded Asus from T-mobile. I don't have T-Mobile. I use the router for personal use behind a Comcast modem.\ Forgive the newbie question, I'm not familiar with DomainNames... There is a field on the router that asks for domain name. t-mobile.com is the default domain name. Should I change and if yes what should my domain name be?

[Speed] Side Discussion About Gigabit Pro & earlier Gigabit Deployments

Anyone know if Comcast has actually started installs? I live in the west palm beach, fl market announced for deployment this month. So far phone agents don't know anything of the service. I've been told by different agents, 2016, June and it'll be in the system tomorrow. None had even heard of the service before I inquired and they did a bit of research, so I went to out local sales office to inquire in person. There I had to show them the press release, to which they simply said its not yet available in the market. Seems like this was a pure fiber to the press release hail marry announcement to try to salvage the dead merger. [Rant] New service blocked

So trying to get new service for my son. Acct was set up last week. Finally go to provision modem Saturday. Of course none of the jacks are hot in this duplex. After calling found out the acct has a temp block on it. My son finally got a call back today. Turns out the previous tenants are behind in paying their Bill so now my son has to send some proof documents. What the absolute hell? He's at work so I am waiting for another call back to figure out what and where to send this info. The local service center could not help me out earlier this morning. They have no access to this info.

Unstable line/Uncorrectable Errors, T3 Time out

Hi there, First time poster on this forum, also first time user of Comcast Xfinity, the problem I have is that my connection is unstable, it cuts out intermittently, there is no real timeframe to it, sometimes it's good for ten minutes, other times it's good for ten hours. I live in an apartment, there is one coaxial entrance in the living room, this is what I have tried so far. -Changed Coaxial Cable -Changed Router from Arris SB8200 to Netgear CM1000 -Changed Ethernet cables -Contacted Comcast, they couldn't find anything thusfar, might need a Tech. Below are the reports from my modem. Uncorrectables increase about 3000-8000 every minute on two channels, all other channels are fine.

[Speed] Comcast Upload Update?

Alright, so I remember that roughly one year ago, Comcast stated that increased upload speeds were coming in "2017." (https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Promises-Faster-Upstream-Speeds-Next-Year-137992) I personally don't care if this increase comes in the form of DOCSIS 3.1, Full Duplex DOCSIS 3.1 (which is still undergoing spec to my knowledge - so I expect this is not the most immediate solution), mid, or high split. Has anyone seen updates on these phantom upload speed increases? Some more sources: http://www.lightreading.com/cable/docsis/comcast-hints-strongly-at-upstream-mid-split/d/d-id/715771 (Ha! This was over two years ago! Riiight...) http://www.multichannel.com/news/distribution/comcast-eyes-upstream-expansion-it-pulls-fiber-deeper/411718 https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Symmetrical-Cable-Broadband-Coming-in-Next-24-Months-139090 I know the year is not over yet, and it's not like Comcast actually follows through with their time schedules, but it seems like a lot of "upload-to-the-press" to me. Just seeing if anyone has heard something new that I haven't.

Connectivity Issues - can only browse secure websites - https://

Can anyone shed some light on this? Comcast has been less than helpful. I am unable to reach a number of websites. There is no general connectivity problem, it is just certain websites (though a fairly substantial number it seems). Activating my VPN resolves the issue. I ran traceroutes both when connected thru the VPN and not. Basically, it reaches the destination when connected to the VPN and starts timing out after around 10+ hops when not connected the the VPN. As an example, PBSKids.org is unreachable until I turn the VPN on and then it works fine. Home Depot is another example. There are more. Comcast wants to send a tech out which doesn't make much sense to me. Any thoughts?

[Connectivity] Upload speeds terrible during the day. Packet loss pings

RESOLVED. See below for post. For the past two days, only during the day, I get terrible upload speeds on my 50/10 business account. While all speed tests show me getting 60Mbs, I only get 500Kbs uploads. When doing a ping to places such as google or even comcast, I get 20-30% packet loss. I chatted with someone at comcast, but all they said was they can see my modem and there's no outages. Their standard response is "we'll send someone out". But when this has happened before, they come out and find nothing. Then a day or two and everything is magically cleared up. What causes this? I see no mention of it elsewhere, and Comcast just says everything is running fine. BTW, I've rebooted my cable modem and router, as I've done in the past. It happens on all devices from WIFI devices to computers via ethernet. I've even plugged directly into the modem with a computer, bypassing any router, and I get the same results. Then it all goes away during the night.

is the MB8600 wasted on Comcast's 150 Mbps plan?

We're moving, and I'm planning on getting Comcast's 150Mbps plan (we currently have 70, so 150 should be plenty for a while). I want to purchase my own modem. It seems people think pretty highly of the MB8600. Are the extra channels the MB8600 provides wasted, or do they get me more alternate lanes when other channels in the neighborhood are congested? If there is absolutely no benefit to having the MB8600, which other modems are the 'sweet spot' for price/performance? Thank you!

[Equip] Comcast reversed my gigabit back.

So I noticed gigabit started to be offered in my area so I called to order and was told a technician had to come out to my house. I have all my own equipment mb8600 modem and asus router. I did give in to the technician as I was not given an option. Well I tested my internet not to long after ordering but before the tech came out and I had gigabit 940 mbps down and around 35-40 up.. All was well and I got a call about confirming the appointment . I told them I have gigabit and it is working fine so do I still need the truck roll and they said no and that I was all set ... I checked my modem later today and YES they had downgraded me to my old blast plan of 200 mbps. I am so frustrated! Has anyone had this happen?

Comcast tells me gig plan requires "special" bundle deal

I keep trying to upgrade to the 1gig service. Each and every time I've tried, I've been told the 1gig service is only available if I agree to upgrade to a triple play bundle which includes a whole host of things I don't want or need. I currently have a double play package and use cable cards and my own Docsis 3.1 modem. However, according to the reps I've spoken to I not only need to upgrade to a triple play package, I also must use their own DVR and lease a modem too. Has anyone else run into this sort of issue? It seems odd I've been told this same info three different times now.

[Mobile] "Xfinity Mobile" wireless service

As mentioned in this recent DSLR news item https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Prepares-For-Mid2017-Wireless-Service-Launch-139048 , Comcast is planning a mid-year launch of their wireless service. Comcast announced today that they will be providing the details on this new service on Thursday: Comcast to Host Analyst Event to Discuss Launch of Mobile Initiative Comcast press release, Business Wire - April 3, 2017 http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170403005198/en/Comcast-Host-Analyst-Event-Discuss-Launch-Mobilequote:On Thursday, April 6, 2017, Comcast will host an analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative, which utilizes an existing MVNO agreement. Senior members of the Comcast leadership team will participate in the event. ...There is also this FierceCable article today about it: Comcast sets Thursday meeting with investors to discuss wireless launch By Daniel Frankel, FierceCable - April 3, 2017 http://www.fiercecable.com/cable/comcast-sets-thursday-meeting-investors-to-discuss-wireless-launchquote:Some of the telecom industry’s most closely guarded secrets could finally be revealed Thursday, when Comcast hosts what it calls an “analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative.” : Comcast confirmed plans to launch a wireless service combining the strengths of its vast Wi-Fi network and its MVNO deal with Verizon back in September. The launch has been slated for sometime later this year. : Last week, FierceWireless reported that Comcast is quietly partnering with Apple as it prepares to launch wireless service under the brand Xfinity Mobile: http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/comcast-quietly-taps-iphone-ahead-launch-xfinity-mobile The cable giant’s name has been added to behind-the-scenes - but publicly available - code that lists carrier bundles for the iPhone. The list of carrier bundles is used by iTunes and iPhones to determine whether the iPhone’s SIM is supported by a service provider with whom Apple has an agreement, then provisions the phone accordingly. The iPhone's latest list of carrier bundles includes "Verizon_Comcast_LTE_US," and mentions the service "Xfinity Mobile." A source pointed out the reference to FierceWireless, and a different source with knowledge of the matter confirmed that Comcast has indeed partnered with Apple ahead of the launch of Xfinity Mobile. [Install] No more self install?

i just went direct to comcast web site for ordering and i noticed they do not have a self install option anymore? 59.99 install for coming and plugging in MY modem? This is what their chat said Alex: Let me also inform you that it is Comcast standard procedure that a technician has to come over at your home for the installation of the services. Even if your new home has lines already, the connection of these lines has been / will be fully disconnected upon service disconnection of the current or previous resident. Restoration of the connection has to be done by a professional technician. Which is total bullshit since i have had Comcast at this address for 5 of the last 6 years. Moved to frontier to get the huge discount, now moving back to Comcast for 29.99

[Equip] Comcast letter about equipment

I have had Comcast gigabit service since whenever it came out in my area (over a year). I was given a Technicolor modem and Netgear R8000. I have not used the router except for occasionally as I wanted to continue using my R7000 because I have dd-wrt firmware installed on it. Also, the R8000 is quite similar except for another 5ghz radio which is not needed and with the addition of the shortcut forward engine code to dd-wrt I can get around 667mbits/sec or more download with my R7000. I received a letter today that says, "We recently identified a technical issue with the modem and router you're currently using. We want to make sure your're getting the most out of your service, so we've shipped a replacement to you at no additional cost." The letter also says that it is a wireless gateway and that I will need to return the other equipment. I do not want a comcast wireless gateway because I have my own router so I called and told them I do not want it and that I'll get a modem. She did not see that it has shipped and she put in the notes that I will get my own modem. I am deciding between the choices I have. I have been leaning toward the Motorola for a while now. My question for the forum is about the "technical issue". I know that the VPN filter attack affects the r7000s that have the Netgear firmware (they may have an update by now), and the 8000 is (edited out: 7800 which isn't), on which I did an update of the Netgear firmware the other day even though I don't use it. Is this an issue where comcast is reacting to that, something like it, is it a Technicolor issue, or an issue with both?

Thinking about switching over to Xfinity!

Hey all, It has been a couple years since I have frequent these forums. I always know to come here whenever I need information. I have been with Verizon FIOS for about 5 years now. My contract is up in about 4 months. While I do enjoy the 75/75 net speed and decent TV package, I don't enjoy paying close to $200 a month. I use mostly the internet, not caring much for TV, and forget that I have a landline phone until it rings (heavy cell phone user). On occasions, I'll call Verizon up to see if they can provide any kind of discounts, and they will offer some of no more than $5 or so dollars. They recommend upgrading to Gigabyte speed, to which I don't really care for. But it'll be $150 for the tech to come by and set that up. I told them I am not fascinated by all that speed. I want a cheaper bill, what can you do for me? There's no way I'm renewing for another 2 years of paying close to $200. The Xfinity promos I've seen are very enticing. Having all the channels I am currently paying for, plus double the speed at 150mb (download as I have not seen any details about the upload) all for a nice intro price of $79.99 (I would be a new customer if I switch) for the first year. I mentioned this to the rep and he told me that Xfinity can offer that speed, but it is shared among my neighbors, not just within my household. Verizon's speed package is only shared among people in my household. I asked if he was sure about this? I wasn't sure. Needless to say, I got nowhere with the call and decided to just jump on here to get more details. Are the net speeds being offered by Xfinity shared among neighbors or just within the household? What is the upload speed offered with the 150mb download? What router is currently being used for Xfinity? Could I use my own if I choose to? Impact of using my own router or in combo with Xfinity router? If anyone made the switch from Verizon or any other provider, how do they like their service? Regrets? I know this is a long thread but I just wanted to make sure I didn't leave any details out. Thanks in advance.
