I'm using the Comcast supplied modem-router, the Arris TG1682G. It will seemingly either crash or just reboot itself, causing me to lose connectivity while it takes an eternity (4 minutes or longer) to restart. It can sometimes happen several times in a day, to not happening for about 3-5 days until it happens again.
I haven't noticed any patterns as to why it does this. It happens at all levels of internet usage, from extremely light to very heavy. The time of day it happens is seemingly random.
I've also tried running the TG1682G in bridge mode with my own router, and still experienced the problem.
Whenever I look at the logs after an unexpected reboot in the TG1682G interface, the only thing that shows up is under Event Logs> Yesterday, and it says:
[Dhcpc][5239]: erouter0 got new IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 2018/6/20 20:50:40 Notice
[Dhcpc][4226]: mta0 got new IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 2018/6/20 20:49:29 Notice
[Dhcpc][6997]: mta0 T1 Expired, Enter Renew State 2018/6/20 00:39:27 Notice
I don't know if the TG1682G's time is the same as my time, but if it is, the "erouter0 got a new IP" event happened about an hour before the unexpected reboot occurred.
Other than this problem, my internet operates fine. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to troubleshoot this, or any suggestions on what to do?

[Plan] Side Discussion on DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit service
Mod Note: This topic started as "XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 - data cap with 3-year agreement?" It has become a general discussion of this deployment, hence the title change. uid://455626
If you actually have had this service installed, the stickied report topic is here. > https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30960001-Speed-Report-DOCSIS-3-1-Gigabit-Service-Here If you report, please include info requested in the first post and keep that topic strictly on topic. Thanks, sortofageek
The XI Gigabit DOCSIS 3.1 is now available in my area. I am tempted to sign up. Early reports said unlimited data with a 3-year agreement. The Comcast website says nothing but the typical disclaimer about the data usage plan. I don't want to sign a 3-year agreement for a plan with a data cap. Does anyone know if the XI Gigabit service is subject to the data usage nonsense?

Too far from the road - 350ft. Options
I just bought a house in an area serviced by Centurylink and Comcast. Centurylink max speed is 25Mbp/s, Comcast is 1Gbp/s. The price of Comcast's top service is double that of CL's top service, but 40x faster, so I would prefer Comcast. The previous owner had CL
Initially my address wasn't in the Comcast database but I called customer service and a week later it was. I scheduled the instal and the the tech arrived yesterday. I wasn't at home, but my wife was, so the information given is 3-rd hand.
Initially the instal started well with the tech offering option as to where we would like the jack. Then he went outside. When he came back he said the house was 350 feet from the road and too far for him to install. He said that he would order a survey and Comcast would pay $1000 towards the cost of the run.
Does anyone know what the approximate cost might be? Also, how long the survey might take to have done?
I will schedule CL to use in the meantime as there is no contract, but would love the additional speed.
Thanks

Data usage accuracy
Wondering how many people out there have data comparing their usage to what Comcast says they're using. I have a Ubiquiti Router (USG Pro 4), which has a Deep Packet Inspection feature (DPI). I reset the counter every month to try to track my data, but it never seems to match up with what Comcast says I'm using.
So far this month Comcast says I've used 439GB, compared to my router saying I've used 182GB. I really don't know how I could have used that much data, 2 adults in our house and a toddler, so don't think it's a kid streaming youtube all day.
Anyone else have ideas for how to better track usage?

[CustSvc] Extend Comcast Service to New Subdivision
Any idea who I can contact to see if Comcast is willing to extend their network? We have fiber at the street but AT&T doesn’t seem to want to sell service. I’m sure Comcast can lease fiber and drop a single HFC plant and cover ~75-100 homes and a bunch of homeowners would pay most of the homes are over $500k

[Price] Help me understand Comcast's confusing internet pricing
I was looking to upgrade my current Performance Pro internet to something faster but was quickly put off by the high monthly upgrade fees. I have the Preferred Double Play. According to the latest rate card for my area the difference in cost between my current Performance Pro and Blast is only $3, whether it's stand alone or with Xfinity TV service. The difference in cost between Performance Pro and Gigabit is listed at only $15 ($89.95 vs $104.95). But....the upgrade fees listed on the rate card for any double play or triple play is listed as $18/ month for Blast and $30/ month for Gigabit! I called 2 different customer service reps and the online chat and was given the same high upgrade fees. I asked why the increase isn't the difference of the prices listed for the internet services on the rate card and none of them could answer my question. One actually hung up on me after keeping me on hold for 20 minutes. Anybody know why the big differences in the listed prices? If I upgraded to Gigabit from Performance Pro and had stand alone internet I would only pay $15 more but from a Double Play it's $30. Doesn't make sense to me. Thanks

[Equip] Comcast reversed my gigabit back.
So I noticed gigabit started to be offered in my area so I called to order and was told a technician had to come out to my house. I have all my own equipment mb8600 modem and asus router. I did give in to the technician as I was not given an option. Well I tested my internet not to long after ordering but before the tech came out and I had gigabit 940 mbps down and around 35-40 up.. All was well and I got a call about confirming the appointment . I told them I have gigabit and it is working fine so do I still need the truck roll and they said no and that I was all set ... I checked my modem later today and YES they had downgraded me to my old blast plan of 200 mbps. I am so frustrated! Has anyone had this happen?

Something changed here. CM600 now showing errors above ch 16
Just checked my modem(CM600) Admin page. Starting today(although it could have begun yesterday) Correctable/Uncorrectables are now showing up above channel 16. Currently showing some being logged on channels 17-21. 0 on 22, 23, and 24. No change in Firmware version. Still on v1.01.14.
Up until today(or yesterday) only channels 1-16 logged these which has been a known issue with this modem/firmware.
So did Xfinity made some changes at the CMTS?
And FYI I have a pretty clean signal here at my location. Right now my "Event Log" has nothing showing since the last time I rebooted and cleared it....over a week ago.

[Speed] Got 1 Gigabit internet, went from 150/20 to 470/6.
I'd be inclined to think maybe that's as good as it gets, with the lines or whatever variables affect speed, but I was thinking since my upload has dropped to 6 from 20, instead of going up to 35, that it may be some screw up somewhere. Does anyone know where I should look or maybe what I should suggest to comcast to check on their end? I am getting those speeds consistently on my iphone connected through wifi, and on my PC connected with ethernet, I have no Router. One of the techs I talked to suggested I get a special Gig modem from Comcast, and new Coax cable for higher speeds. But for anything that I can see to fix, I can't imagine why the upload actually dropped quite a bit, I mean that should never happen right?

[Signals] Can I request a new cable run after my demarcation point?
My mom's place has an aerial run from the telephone pole that is on the side of her house. However, after the demarcation point it's all RG59 coax which I would love to replace with RG6. I guess I am responsible unless I get a sympathetic technician who wants to go into the crawl space or basement to run a new line.
The reason I want to replace the RG59 is because the new MB8600 I activated is reporting that the DS power levels are fluctuating between + 7-10 dBmV after each refresh.
Would I just be better off trying to find someone (or do it myself?) or hope a tech will run it for me?

DSLReports Speedtest warning about a Comcast proxy????
I'm a standard residential Xfinity customer with an Arris SB6190 modem and IQRouter. Recently I noticed that my buffer bloat seemed to be coming back. Now when I run the speedtest I get a lower score for my buffer bloat and the following warning:
Your connection is via a proxy (1.1 npls3-notify02.bonitasprngs.fl.naples.comcast.net (squid/3.5.23)) The speed test may return an error. Any results may not be meaningful.
I don't remember seeing this message before, is this from Comcast or someone else? Not sure I like the idea of being behind a proxy...

Could someone from Comcast take a look at this issue? Woke up three days ago to green lights only on SB8200. Prior to that I had blue downstream and an OFDM channel. Now all 32 bonded channels are QAM256. I have power cycled modem daily, still no OFDM, still on DOCsis 3.0.

Just got off chat with CSR. Asked for modem MAC. CSR says modem is offline. It's not. Sent reset. No reset received. I factory reset modem a few days back, no change. On Gig tier, FYI. What the heck is going on?

To get Gigabit Pro or not
We currently have Gigabit from Comcast with the $50 unlimited data option. Gigabit Pro is now available in our area. Unfortunately, it's $299 a month + L2 Switch Rental + Taxes and they won't bend on the $500 install + $500 activation fee.
My use case is probably a little different than a lot of home users. I work from home and between work and personal usage, we probably use 3-4 TB per month in data. I routinely move large files up/down from the "cloud" and also have a Plex server in the house. We also have 3 Nest Cameras and they are on 24x7.
I can't say we are "running out" of the measly 35 megabit/sec upload Comcast gives us, but I'd love to have at least 100 megabit up, or more. Moving large files from my computer to remote locations is painfully slow.
My budget allows for the $299 + associated fees that come with the 2 gig/2 gig service, but it would require a large expense to overhaul a few devices in my home network with equipment that can actually utilize more than 1 gigabit...
For those who have gigabit pro, how did you overcome the hardware limitations most computers/switches have (up to 1 gigabit link)?
Sonnet and Akitio make USB C to 10GBe adapters, and my 2 primary computers have USB-C... but I'm sure I have to run CAT7 Ethernet to each machine to have stable results with the service.
https://www.akitio.com/adapters/thunder3-10g-network-adapter and https://www.sonnettech.com/product/solo-10g-tb3.html
Just not sure if it's worth it, or if the money would be better appropriated for a colo/dedi server here/there to serve my needs and offload some of the network consumption to a data center, instead of from my home.

[Business] Business is failing PCI compliance due to Netgear CG3000DCR
My company is working with a business trying to get them PCI compliant. Right now, Trustwave and Heartland are both failing them for open ports on their WAN address of TCP ports 8080 and 8081. Apparently, their Comcast-provided gateway is hosting an internet-wide accessible remote management login on those ports (this is verified by entering their WAN IP and :8080 into any web browser. The Netgear login page is shown.) My associate says the checkbox for Remote Management is unchecked, but the page is still available. I called Business support today but as usual they were clueless.

[Equip] Actiontec ECB6200 bonded MoCA bridges with X1 boxes - help!
Hey all
Last year I asked around about help regarding setting up MoCA in my home with a very weird and not at all ideal network topology. Eventually I managed to get that to work by replacing the amplifiers with a rare sort that explicitly bypasses MoCA signals, the PDI-MBA-101-A. (In general amps today do not seem to bypass MoCA even if they are branded 'MoCA' in some way.)
In any case. That is all in the past. I decided I was sick of the old RNG150 boxes and DTAs and that we should move to X1. In accordance with that, they found and removed almost all hidden splitters, save one in the attic, and had all lines otherwise come straight out of one amplifier.
Now. The MoCA bridges are Actiontec ECB6200 bonded-channel models, and we were outfitted with 1 XG1v3 DVR, 1 XG2v2-P box, and 4 XiD-Ps. While those boxes work,
1) the fact that the XG1 and XG2 boxes' firmware has MoCA set to use version 1.1 rather than version 2.0 makes for a maximum speed (which I only got a few times) of 100Mbps down;
2) after some actual use of the boxes (*not* while they are being used, but after they have been - see #3 below) the maximum bandwidth decreased again, to like, 40Mbps and even worse,
3) while the boxes are in use - even if just for live TV and not anything else that would require the boxes' MoCA connection (e.g. the DVR), speedtests decrease even more, to about 25Mbps - no better than a marginal powerline-based network - and regardless of the speedtest, internet delivered over MoCa remains too spotty to use: Netflix stays on SD streams less than 1Mbps large, Plex needs to transcode to a very small stream, etc.
There is nothing in the cabling that could be causing this, to my knowledge. Unplugging all the X1 boxes and leaving the Actiontecs in yields full bonded MoCA speeds. One of the bridges is sharing a spot with my modem (the coax comes out of the wall, goes to the bridge, and then goes from the bridge to the modem) which worked without issue before: I got full 240/12 down speeds on my modem and my MoCA speeds did not suffer either. The other bridge is next to the XG1 DVR, but the passthrough function didn't work (again, it did with the first bridge and the modem) so I put a known-good MoCA-rated 2-way splitter there and had one output go to the DVR and one to the ECB6200. Again, as long as I unplugged all X1 devices, MoCA worked at full speed.
Checking the ECB6200 settings - they are at their defaults, of 1150Mhz/Band D Extended. This is reputedly the only setting that works at all. I did try using different bands but this deteriorated speeds and performance whilst actively using X1 boxes even more severely.
I can't be the only person who wants to use MoCA (particularly bonded, but really any sort) for home networking, while also using Xfinity X1 boxes. In fact, I found one person who successfully got it working at this Reddit thread - and he even managed to get 2.0 to work with the addition of an XB3 gateway (which I refuse to do) - but nothing in his thread would suggest that he ever suffered from these interference issues.
This could very well be a dealbreaker: if I can't fix this, I'll try to move back down to the old RNG150 boxes while I still can. I would love to avoid that, though. So, please, if anybody has any ideas as to how to get the ECB6200s to play nice with X1, I'm all ears.
