Comcast sent me a XB6
Getting home from work today, I noticed Comcast had sent me a XB6 Gateway. I'm on the Gigabit service with the leased Technicolor modem that was originally installed in the home a year ago. Any reason as to why they sent me this gateway, is the Technicolor modem going end of life? I'd really like to avoid using the XB6 if at all possible.
Thanks

[Signals] Why so much bounce in upstream.
My upstream levels on my MB8600 have been bouncing around the last couple weeks.
We have had some rain, lighting and thunderstorms which I thought may cause this, but it's doing it when there is no weather problem.
It doesn't seem to be effecting service, no drop offs or anything like that just curious as to whats going on with it.

[Business] Business is failing PCI compliance due to Netgear CG3000DCR
My company is working with a business trying to get them PCI compliant. Right now, Trustwave and Heartland are both failing them for open ports on their WAN address of TCP ports 8080 and 8081. Apparently, their Comcast-provided gateway is hosting an internet-wide accessible remote management login on those ports (this is verified by entering their WAN IP and :8080 into any web browser. The Netgear login page is shown.) My associate says the checkbox for Remote Management is unchecked, but the page is still available. I called Business support today but as usual they were clueless.
Ideas?

[Moving] Modem advice moving only choice is comcast no fios :(
So I have to move and where I am moving to only has Comcast as it one of the few areas Verizon now frontier decided not to run fiber in my town.
So going forward I know we will end up with a triple play and I just want to to be a modem give my pfsense box its a public ip and be done with it. From some brief searching this netgear will do what I need https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Telephone-download-680Mbps-Certified/dp/B075XGZ6GL/ref=pd_ybh_a_36?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=YEH7JWK2G3MEED25C6DJ
As it both a modem/emta but is there a better one out there ? I really hate netgear stuff.

[Speed] Side Discussion for Perf Pro 150/5 & Blast Pro 250/10 rollout
This topic has been re-titled and will become the side discussion to include the new Blast Pro 250/10 tier rollout. The reports for actual receipt of these tiers are here: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31777264-Speed-Report-Performance-Pro-150-5-Blast-Pro-250-10-Here uid://455626
I had to reboot my modem today due troubleshoot a pfsense NIC failure and after the reboot, my speed tests are now showing 300mbps. They were only 240mbps yesterday. Upload is still showing on 12mbps. This is on a Blast Pro plan, modem SB6183, location: Colorado Springs.

[Equip] Comcast eMTA policy
Right now I'm getting VoIP through Ooma. This was easy, but it's not a great deal given it costs $5/mo thanks to their passing fees on to me. Meanwhile the best bundle deals are still triple-plays. So, I'm trying to take stock of my options.
I do not want to have to rent a Comcast gateway, nor do I want to buy a compatible one (such as e.g. the Netgear C7100v). Right now, my modem is a Netgear CM600. So I'm wondering if Comcast will rent modems solely to act as eMTAs, while the main modem used for data is remains customer-owned modem. That's not great given that these cost $11/mo now, but it may still be cheaper than the current situation (particularly if I can temporarily cancel long enough to be eligible for new customer pricing - does anybody know how long the period for that is?) Otherwise, and perhaps, better still - is it possible to buy an eMTA, e.g. a CM500v (seems like the newest one that can be bought at retail) and then have it provisioned solely for voice, while the CM600 handles data?
I'm aware that the easy answer here is to step down to a CM500v for data as well, which I may yet do depending on whether we decide to step down a tier or two. But I'd still like to know whether that is my only option or not.

[Equip] XFi wit Xpods
Is the Xfi with Xpods worth it. Currently have a Netgear CM 1000 with a Netgear Orbi (one base and one satellite) but the Wi-Fi in my house is lopsided. It seems to be stronger on one side of the house and dead on the other (kitchen and second bedroom are dead). I can tell because Wi-Fi calling on At&t only works in certain rooms. I was thinking of getting the six pack of Xpods and putting one in every room because my house was built in the 1890's and has thick plaster walls.
I currently have gigabit service.

[WiFi] New Xfinity XB6 Gateway modem WIFI speeds question
Hi everyone.
I have not seen a post asking this, hope I am correct. The thing is that I got the Gig service / plan from xfinity and got and activated the xb6 today. The speed via wire is working just fine, 950 mbps down, over 40 mbps up. Now, I am checking the wifi speeds using the same xb6, using the 5 mhz, not the 2.4 mhz, with my google pixel. My phone is showing download speeds of 40 plus but the download is not going over 125. I call comcast and they say that the phone should not get download speeds over 225 mbps. Does any of you have you heard that? Is this true / accurate? Have anyone tested it with your phones and got higher speeds? TIA

Recently upgraded to Xfinity Gigabit and have questions...
I recently upgraded to Xfinity Gigabit and my current setup is a Linksys EA8500 that is connected to Xfinity's XB6 wireless gateway. This is setup in Bridge mode. None of my computers (1 desktop and the rest are laptops), Smart TVs, and Amazon Firesticks are hardwired so everything is wireless.
1. I have a Macbook pro (late 2011 model) and of course it has wifi built in... are there any USB wifi adapters that I can use with this device and get faster wifi speeds? Or is the only reasonable way I can do this is to be hard wired?
2. Was it OK for me to have the installer setup this configuration in bridge mode with the Linksys EA8500? Or would it have been better to go without bridge mode?
3. The desktop computer I have has a wireless adapter installed in it, but it is an older wireless adapter and the speeds are not as fast as my macbook pro. The desktop only gets about 100Mbps on download, while the macbook pro gets about 125Mbps when in the same area/distance from the wifi. It should be noted that this wifi is a card I purchased several years ago and physically installed in the desktop computer so I know it uses older technology.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can provide me ;-)

[Speed] Comcast upload speeds?
Can anyone explain why Comcast's upload speeds are so low compared to competitors? Or why their tiers are seemingly random across their footprint?
I know it's not a limitation of the technology. DOCSIS 3.0 allows for uploads up to 200Mbps. Comcast's fastest upload speed is 10Mbps across most of their footprint, except for the few random markets where they offer the "Extreme" tiers with 20-25Mbps uploads. Why can't they offer 20Mbps upload speeds everywhere? They even offer up to 25Mbps on their business class plans.
Optimum offers 35-40Mbps uploads on all of their tiers, so I know it's possible.

[Mobile] "Xfinity Mobile" wireless service
As mentioned in this recent DSLR news item https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-Prepares-For-Mid2017-Wireless-Service-Launch-139048 , Comcast is planning a mid-year launch of their wireless service.
Comcast announced today that they will be providing the details on this new service on Thursday:
Comcast to Host Analyst Event to Discuss Launch of Mobile Initiative
Comcast press release, Business Wire - April 3, 2017
http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170403005198/en/Comcast-Host-Analyst-Event-Discuss-Launch-Mobilequote:On Thursday, April 6, 2017, Comcast will host an analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative, which utilizes an existing MVNO agreement. Senior members of the Comcast leadership team will participate in the event. ...There is also this FierceCable article today about it:
Comcast sets Thursday meeting with investors to discuss wireless launch
By Daniel Frankel, FierceCable - April 3, 2017
http://www.fiercecable.com/cable/comcast-sets-thursday-meeting-investors-to-discuss-wireless-launchquote:Some of the telecom industry’s most closely guarded secrets could finally be revealed Thursday, when Comcast hosts what it calls an “analyst event to discuss the details of its previously announced mobile initiative.”
:
Comcast confirmed plans to launch a wireless service combining the strengths of its vast Wi-Fi network and its MVNO deal with Verizon back in September. The launch has been slated for sometime later this year.
:
Last week, FierceWireless reported that Comcast is quietly partnering with Apple as it prepares to launch wireless service under the brand Xfinity Mobile: http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/comcast-quietly-taps-iphone-ahead-launch-xfinity-mobile
The cable giant’s name has been added to behind-the-scenes - but publicly available - code that lists carrier bundles for the iPhone. The list of carrier bundles is used by iTunes and iPhones to determine whether the iPhone’s SIM is supported by a service provider with whom Apple has an agreement, then provisions the phone accordingly.
The iPhone's latest list of carrier bundles includes "Verizon_Comcast_LTE_US," and mentions the service "Xfinity Mobile." A source pointed out the reference to FierceWireless, and a different source with knowledge of the matter confirmed that Comcast has indeed partnered with Apple ahead of the launch of Xfinity Mobile. [OUTAGE] Intermittent Internet connectivity
In December 2017 I began to get Internet "dropouts"; that is, connectivity would fail on all devices connected to my router, then a minute or five later, it would come back. The frequency of these episodes has increased, until this weekend the dropouts can happen as often as once every couple of minutes. My cable modem and router are in the same room as my PC, so I can see their indicator lights when an outage occurs.
Almost always, the cable modem's DS, US, Online and Link LEDs remain normal during an outage. (Once in a while, like once a week or two, the modem appears to reboot by itself - I see the DS, US, Online LEDs go through their blinking stages.) Almost always, the modem LEDs remain normal except for the Internet LED, which usually shows yellow for error. When I surf to the router's IP, it says Internet Status is "Disconnected," and also "Please configure your DNS manually."
A couple weeks ago I replaced my router, cable modem, and WAN Ethernet cable with brand new units. This did not change the situation at all.
My cable modem is 16x4. It has locked on all 16 DS channels. It reports signal levels from about -6 to -7 dBmV, and S/Ns in the range of 36 to 38 dB. (The old modem was 8x4, it locked on all of its 8 DS channels, and reported the same levels and S/Ns as the new modem.) Upstream, the new modem locks on either 1 or 3 channels (it varies on each reboot; I have rebooted the modem several times since installing it about a week ago). Right now it's locked on 3; Upstream levels are 48 to 49 dBmV.
I have put up with these dropouts for 7 months, but at this point the Internet has become almost unusable, so it seems I'm gonna have to call Comcast. I have given these details in the hope that I can get opinions as to what's going on, and how I should approach the issue with tech support when I call them.
Thanks,
John

Unable to Log into "My Account" on Xfinity website?
Is anyone else experiencing this problem with Comcast? I can pull up the Xfinity website and also access my Xfinity email but when I click on My Account the three dots come up to indicate it is loading but it never goes beyond this. True on multiple computers, multiple different browsers. Anyone else?

Xfinity Devices
Trying to figure out what the hey is connected/not connected to my X1 gateway. Some I have been able to figure out. But have 4 that are shown as LiteonTe-(and digits) and a couple other ones too. I have check device details to no avail. I have multiple WiFi enable pieces of equipment (thermostat, camera, DVD, etc) around the house. I have chatted with Xfinity Customer Service with no luck they transferred me to the "next level" again no luck. They suggested to call the security department since I suggested that if I don't know what the equipment is and they don't either could it be someone nearby accessing the system through my gateway for nefarious reasons? Guess what they had no idea either. I have tried a Google search on each unknown and the LiteonTe-**** seemed to be a WiFi chip built into whatever. Just doesn't say what it is built into. One of the devices listed as connected is WhiteRod-0462 that comes back as a porn movie doing a Google search! Any suggestions where I could get a bit more detailed info on what these are. That is versus having to try (physically difficult for me) and unplug everything that me be (or possibly has been) connected? Appreciate it. And thanx....
