[Connectivity] err_connection_reset accessing site that is up
I'm trying to access the social security admin site. I can get to the main page but, once I try to access something on https://secure.ssa.gov, I get ERR_CONNECTION_RESET no matter what browser, whether I use wifi or ethernet connection.
I know enough about networks to be dangerous, but not really enough to be administering my own. However, that is what I'm doing. I'm on Comcast.
My info:
Location: Cherokee County GA
Problem: intermittent inaccessibility to certain websites. 2 nights ago, lost internet access completely - not sure what I did to recover it, unfortunately (I'm great at trying things, lousy at documenting what I tried). A day or so before that, we had a Comcast tech at the "box" on the utility pole outside our house doing we-don't-know-what.
I have a self-owned ARRIS Moto SB6121 modem.
Firmware Name: SB_KOMODO-1.0.7.4-SCM00-NOSH
Boot Version: PSPU-Boot(25CLK) 1.0.12.18m3
Hardware Version: 5.0
Serial Number: 359079218529877601012019
Firmware Build Time: Jun 26 2020 18:18:25
I have a DLink DIR-882 router wired to that modem.
Hardware Version: A1
Firmware Version: 1.10
I have a DLink DIR-615 router running DD-WRT v3.0-r35770 std (updating firmware makes me nervous) connected to the 882 via wifi as a bridge/extender.
Only the 882 is acting as a DCHP server.
I'm not sure that any of the internal wireless stuff is an issue, since I cannot connect to the problem site even when wired to the 882.
If I tracert to the site, I get a consistent timeout of varying length right after hitting
ae-70-ar01.b0atlanta.ga.atlanta.comcast.net [2001:558:140:533::1]
Where do I start? (Please be kind. I'm trying hard to understand enough to keep Comcast out of my life as much as possible.)
[added minutes later] earlier this morning, I added DNS server addresses 75.75.75.75 and .76 to my 882, in an effort to connect, and it seemed to work briefly along with whatever else I was trying (flushdns, release/renew, other stuff). Just now, I REMOVED those DNS addresses, and was able to connect to the problem site. Not sure how long that will last. Not sure what's causing this.

[Firmware] SB8200 New Firmware - Password Required?
My Arris SB8200 rebooted just now and upon reboot, I am prompted for a login/password when accessing 192.168.100.1
Has anyone seen this before? Before this reboot that page was unprotected and I often looked in there to check my signal levels.
Anyone know the username/password?

Advertising 2 Gig?
I've noticed a few local market (south Florida) commercials advertising 2Gig service today but I haven't been able to find anything online.
Is this the same service that's been around for a few years or is there a new offer going on?

[Speed] STUMPED!
Needs some guidance.(Comcast Employee)
I “tried “ to upgrade my HSI speeds via courtesy services to extreme pro 600MB . But my speeds only increased to 300MB.
I have a net gear CM1150v docsis 3.1
In the home I have a X1 1 dvr and 1 xid . Moca filter installed at GB.
I have No internet issues at all! I just wanted to upgrade my speeds
Cmts reads extreme pro bootfile
ATS says everything looks great on their end!
All my tests are ran hardwired to the back of the modem.
Also! I replaced the modem.

[Caps] Second day of the month and already used 19 GB
It’s Feb 2nd 2021 and I’ve already used 19 GB. All I have is web browsing on a Mac desktop, two iPhones, a printer, a Ring Doorbell, two cameras (provided by Xfinity Home which should be zero rated) and a Roku Stick which is used to watch the Xfinity Stream App. Maybe I should schedule a truck roll to have a line run to the upstairs bedroom to have an X1 client box so I am getting my video via the QAM channels and not IP.
Maybe Comcast should give unlimited data to their video subscribers since caps are intended to deter cord cutting.
Where could the data be coming from.

[Speed] Comcast increased upload speed?
I'm in the Seattle, WA suburbs where Comcast is my only internet option (DSL is limited to 30mbps).
I subscribe to Gig Speed and have an XB7 bridge-mode to the Orbi AX6000 (both devices capable of 2.5Gbps).
I run the Orbi built in speed test and through the hundreds of speed tests I've done, reliably would get about 1190Mbps down, and 42Mbps up.
Sometime between 1/27 and 1/30 (the period I ran two tests), my upload speeds seem to have jumped.
While my downloads are still between 1190 and 950 (during busier times of the day), I've noticed my upload is consistently 48-50Mbps. It's not FiOS level speeds, but still a nearly 20% increase over previous speeds.
I checked emails (and this forum) for speed increases, and while I saw the thread about the downstream boost in the Northeast, I didn't see any mention of faster uploads or the fact that it applied anywhere outside of the NE.
Anyone have insights or similar observations?

[Speed] Weird Speedtest Results (slow then full speed?)
Have any of you ever experienced bizzare speeds with Xfinity where the test start very slow them sped up to your rated speed you pay for? I’ve noticed similar behavior when I download large files off of the internet too.

[Install] New install with Netgear CM1200 with Comcast 1GB service - signa
I just installed Comcast 1GB internet service using my own modem in a new home. The equipment is the same I used in my former home with 1GB service, a Netgear CM1200 modem.
The speeds seem fine so far (about 5 days so far). But today I checked the signals on the CM1200, and I saw some things I had not seen before.
First on the Downstream Bonded channels - 3 channels have very high correctible and unocrrectible errors. Second, the power levels are all around 0 - I am used to seeing them around 3-4 dBmV. SNR looks good though. Is there any action I should take on this, are there any issues?
(picture 1 above)
Second - on the Upstream Bonded Channels, at my old house power is around 37-38 dBmV. Here, they are 51-52 dBmV. Is this ok?
(picture 2 above)
Last, on the Downstream OFDM channels - power is also around 0, in my old house it's around 2.9 dBmV. Is this ok?
(picture 3 above)
The new house is in a large city, the old house is in the suburbs. Maybe the new house is closer to Comcast equipment, so power doesn't need to be as high as the SNRs are pretty good?
Thanks for taking a look at this and advising me!

Fiber coming down my street!
8/13/2020
so... i saw a truck outside with communications labeled on it, and i noticed they were working on the box behind the amplifier next to my house, so i asked the guys what they were doing, they are pulling strings to pull fiber through the neighborhood!
right now its just the thick rope, they are using a fish tape and a large air compressor to push it through the conduits.
they told me tomorrow they will use those ropes to pull fiber though, and they have 5000 feet to do. i asked them if they will take out the old coax, and they basically said it will get abandoned.
they are not the ones doing the fiber splicing, so maybe the fiber gets pulled, and just gets left alone for a while.
so i figured id just start my own thread to track (or not track) how long it takes to get what i assume will be rphy eventually.
assuming the signals will get better (snr) when they do finally do upgrades, but we shall see.

RG11 vs RG6
So from what i've read, RG11 cable is thicker, and preserves signal better over longer distances. My question is, if I were to replace some of the internal house wiring with RG11 (this particular run is quite long), are the connectors on the ends of the cable the same size as RG6 and would fit into the back of my cable modem? Like wouldn't the center core of the coax be thicker on the RG11, or are they the same?

MoCA Adapter
If I have the newest X1 Gateway and am trying to use and coax connection in a bedroom to create an ethernet connection do I need one or two MoCA adapters? I've read yes & no so want to be sure. My house is 9 years old, so everything sorta new.

[Equip] Motorola MB8600 vs MB8611
I have been using a MB8600 modem for a couple of years with no real problems. Speeds and levels always good.
I see the MB8611has been released and wondering if I should upgrade to that.
I am on the 500/15 tier and have no plans on going to the gig tier.
Gift cards on Amazon make the money a no issue.
Thanks.

Comcast refuses to push the latest(deployed) firmware to router
I have a Netgear C6300BD(AC1900) router/modem combo. I'm signed up for the 400mb internet package.
As of right now I'm only getting 115mbps down and 20up when I test with a wired connection, WIFI is like 85 down and 15 up.
Pathetic.
Also there are some signal loss issues.
I took a look and noticed that the firmware currently running on the router is MANY iterations behind the latest release, and an entire generation behind what even Comcast says it has deployed.
I'm currently running firmware version: 2.01.08
Comcast claims it has deployed version: 3.01.12
I've spent hours on the phone with NetGear who claim they only develop the firmware then send it to the ISP(Comcast) for testing and verification.
When I bring this to Comcast over MULTIPLE calls all I get is the same reset/power cycle BS runaround that obviously isn't gonna just magically push this firmware update.
I've tried to get one of the reps to transfer me to tier 2 or tier 3 support, but those call center workers in the Phillipines have no clue, bless their hearts.
Anyhow, I'm here hoping someone with the ability to help reads this and get back to me.

Slow Upload? Are my PowerLevels ok?
Hey Guys,
I've noticed this past weekend, we've been getting lower upload speed than normal. We've always got our full speed, but just this past weekend, we've been only getting between 4mbps-12mbps upload. Our download speed doesn't appear to be affected. It has been colder than normal in Illinois, below zero over the weekend, so I'm wondering if that's playing a role. Any input would be appreciated.

SB6190
My SB6190 just died. I have Xfinity extreme pro. Can I buy SB6183 with my tier or should I buy 3.1 docsis, with all the problems with SB6190 I'm reading. I don't want to buy the 6190 again.

[Equip] What is the go-to cable modem these days?
I'm still using an Arris 6141 (which replaced my venerable 6120), but now that my Blast service supposedly goes to 400 Mbps d/l (but probably still 10 Mbps u/l lol) it's getting long in the tooth. What is the new reliable workhorse modem that I should be looking at?
Caveat: when my cable TV+internet deal is up later this year I may go to CenturyLink Gigabit fiber if I decide to cord-cut, because my TiVo Premiere will be 11 years old and may die soon. In that case I gather that Comcast won't sell you straight internet without tacking on a "because they can" "customer without TV service" charge beyond what you normally pay when it's a package like Double Play. Gotta make up that "broadcast TV fee" and "regional sports fee" somehow, right?
How does the Netgear CM1100 hold up? It has "Two (2) Gigabit Ethernet ports with link aggregation support." What is that last thing about? Does it mean that it can theoretically go up to 2 Gbps?
I can get that one at Costco for 150 bucks (about 20 below full retail).

[Connectivity] pandemic relief finally
contrary to the NCTA's propaganda I've seen the degradation in my connection during the pandemic. last night there was some scheduled maintenance(node split I'm guessing?) and things are looking better. still looking for that low latency DOCSIS though...

[Price] What is the ballpark pricing for xFinity Gigabit, anyway?
...and is it over the same cable that provides "regular" cable internet and TV? (obviously my modem would need an upgrade--see my other recent post)
Asking because CenturyLink offers Gigabit Fiber internet for $65/month in my neighborhood, and I wonder if Comcast xFinity even bothers trying to compete on price for internet-only. I realize that in any case, the upload speed would not come close to that of the CenturyLink offering, and it would almost certainly have a bandwidth cap.
